My Story Part 3/20: Branching Out!

Here is Part 3 of my story!! :)

Hey everyone! Here’s tonight’s part of my story, this is Part 3 out of 20!! :)

Yesterday, I talked about how from a young age I have always loved connecting with other people and getting to know people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. I mentioned how in my early years of school, I loved making as many friends as possible and connecting with others in my class - but I never really felt the need to be part of a large friend group, and was perfectly happy just hanging out with my few closest friends most of the time. Let’s now see how this evolves. :)

When I got to high school, I started to think it would be pretty cool if I put myself out there more, branched out and deepened my connection with my friends and classmates at school, and became more a part of my school’s social scene. I had always felt accepted by my peers up until this point, so I figured it would be fairly easy for me to make this adjustment. But... it wasn’t quite that way, and this is the point of my story where I started to struggle.

You don’t need me to tell you that high school can be very cliquey, and mine was included in that. I realized that by the time I wanted to branch out, a lot of the friend groups and social fabric of my peers had already developed... and since I’d never really before established myself as someone who wanted to be at the forefront of that, I just wasn’t being seen as that kind of person. And I wasn’t about to change that overnight just because I suddenly decided that I wanted to.

So, despite my best efforts, I realized that I was starting to feel isolated and alienated from many of my peers, and even some of my close friends, at school. I really don’t think anyone intended to make me feel this way or wanted me to - it was the way things were. But still, I had never felt like this before and it was very challenging for me in that moment. I didn’t know how to deal with these feelings or even where to begin. But little did I know that this would be just the beginning of a greater journey.
