Happy Juneteenth Everyone!! :)

Hey everyone!! :)

As we all know, today is Juneteenth, and the first one ever to be an official federal holiday!!!! This is an extremely important and significant day in our country’s history, and the fact that it has been declared a federal holiday is an awesome milestone. Let's talk a bit about it!!

For those of you who are unaware, Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day that the last slaves in America received notice of their freedom... Abraham Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation two years earlier, but it took two years for the news to reach Galveston, Texas!! This day celebrates the freedom and emancipation of all slaves as well as African American culture in general, and is seen as a day to bring light to the struggles and triumphs of Black people throughout our nation’s history.

And of course, today we remember how there is still so much more work to do in the fight for justice and equality for all, and we must keep fighting hard every day to reach that goal. I am working on learning and growing every day so I can keep striving towards being the best ally I can be, and I am taking this day to focus on continuing to educate myself and raise my own awareness. I hope you all have a beautiful day celebrating emancipation and freedom while reflecting on what we can all do to fight for justice every day!! Wishing everyone a blessed and beautiful Juneteenth!!!! :)
